Saudi Arabia wants everything, even… diverting the best referees in Europe

To date, foreign referees can only oversee Saudi League matches on specific occasions.

If the players weren’t enough, now the Saudi Arabian clubs also want to take the best European referees.

According to the Times daily, a real plan is underway to convince referees to move full-time to the Saudi League.

After having spent more than 800 million euros on the transfer market, the next signings could come from the Premier League, as well as the main European Leagues, but this time the recruitment field is on the ‘whistle’ side.

Some of the most renowned English referees, as well as others across Europe who officiated games at the last World Cup, were, in fact, contacted by Saudi intermediaries to ascertain their availability.

To date, foreign referees can only occasionally direct Saudi League games, but, given the low level of its own referees, the Saudi Pro League is now thinking about purchasing the reinforcements it needs. Thus, a new attempt to shake up the Old Continent is on the horizon.
