Girona wins in added time and leads Spanish Liga
A goal from Venezuelan Yangel Herrera, in added time, allowed Girona to beat Celta Vigo, 1-0, and thus isolate themselves at the top of the Spanish football league.
At their stadium in Montilivi, Girona continued their fantastic campaign in ‘La Liga’, reaching matchday 11 with nine wins, one draw, and only one defeat, against the ‘colossus’ Real Madrid.
Girona has 28 points, three more than Real Madrid and four more than FC Barcelona, teams that will play the ‘el clásico’ of Spanish football on Saturday.
The Catalans’ dominance was intense, even finishing the first half with 70% possession, but only in the end did they really get the victory, with a well-constructed move that Herrera finished with a powerful long-range shot.
Clearly in crisis, Rafa Benitez’s Celta Vigo remain in 18th place, first in the relegation zone, with only six points.
