Last Wednesday, the 5-0 loss to Palmeiras was Tricolor’s 14th straight game without a win away from Morumbi in the competition. According to the “Anotações Tricolores”, this had only happened between the 1978 and 1981 editions – the Tricolor did not play in the tournament in 1979 and went through the entire 1980 without winning.
On that occasion, São Paulo accumulated 10 draws and four defeats away from home. This time, there are already eight defeats and six draws, thus obtaining their worst record as a visitor in the entire history of the Brazilian Championship.
The 14% of the points won so far make the team led by Dorival the second worst in the competition, ahead only of América-MG, which has a 13% success rate.
If they don’t win this Sunday, therefore, São Paulo will reach the 15th away duel without a win and will have the worst sequence in their history in the Brasileirão.
“If I knew the way, it wouldn’t be happening. It bothers us and we are working hard to reverse this situation. It’s a reality. Every time we left Morumbi in the Brazilian Nationals we didn’t have the strength to get the result. Hard to explain. Our posture inside Morumbi is different. Sometimes it escapes our understanding of what happens when we leave Morumbi – said Dorival after the defeat to Palmeiras.

The last time Tricolor won away from their stadium in the tournament was with Rogério Ceni in charge, in the last round of last year’s edition, when they beat Goiás by the score of 4-0.
To leave behind this uncomfortable statistic, Dorival will have the returns of Pablo Maia, Luan, and Arboleda. On the other hand, the coach will not have Rafinha, suspended, and Lucas Moura, injured.
