Renowned manager José Mourinho has clarified his stance regarding recent remarks allegedly targeting Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. The Portuguese tactician, known for his fiery persona, emphasized that his comments are rooted in fairness rather than animosity.

Mourinho Denies Wanting City’s Relegation

Mourinho dismissed claims that he wishes for Manchester City’s relegation following their financial fair play (FFP) investigations. “It’s not true that I want Man City to be relegated,” Mourinho stated. “But what is true is that I want justice.”

The Roma boss hinted that the application of FFP rules is often inconsistent, particularly when smaller clubs face harsh penalties for minor infractions.

Financial Fair Play and Its Double Standards

Mourinho pointed out the disparity in how FFP rules affect different clubs:

> “Small teams can sometimes be penalised by Financial Fair Play… when they exceed limits by 5 to 10 euros.”

He also recounted his own challenges at Roma, where FFP regulations have hindered the club’s operations. “I also suffered due to limits at Roma,” he added. “I don’t think this is fair.”

Mourinho on Relationship with Guardiola

Despite the apparent tension, Mourinho reiterated his respect for Guardiola. “We love each other, he knows it. Words are one thing, feelings are another,” he said, stressing that their professional rivalry doesn’t translate into personal animosity.

Justice Above All

Mourinho’s remarks underline his call for equality and fairness in football’s financial regulations. While he denies wishing any harm to Manchester City, he insists that justice must prevail in the sport. The statement showcases Mourinho’s enduring passion for football, coupled with his sharp critique of the game’s governance.
